A.M.E. Zion Church Committed to Environmental Protection
The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church held its Annual Women’s Convention /Camp Meeting in Winneba from 12th to 14th February 2021. The theme for the Convention was “Globally Committed to Environmental Stewardship.” In this theme, the conference discussed protection of the environment from destruction. As environmental cleanliness was central to the theme, SHAPE Attitude Ghana was invited to share its vision and experience in promoting environmental cleanliness with the delegates.
The Presiding Elder and Pastor of Joseph Charles Price Cathedral, Winneba, the host of the conference, Rev Solomon Odoom, spoke on the actions of humans such as deforestation, plastic pollution, air and noise pollution which are impacting negatively on the environment and threatening human life and survival. Rev. Odoom challenged the delegates to practice responsible behaviour in order to minimise destruction of the environment.
In his brief address, the Chief Executive Officer of SHAPE Attitude Ghana, Wonderful Baisie Ghartey, employed the delegates to undertake activities that will ensue their surroundings are clean. He urged the delegates to cultivate the habit of environmental cleanliness in their children and to desist from indiscriminate littering and dumbing of refuse. Mr Ghartey also tasked delegates to engage their assemblymen and women in the crusade against indiscriminate littering and dumping of refuse.
Among the activities for the conference were quiz and choreography competition among districts, debate, candle procession and open-air evangelism crusade.
