First Shape Attitude Ambassadors inaugurated at Jukwa near Cape Coast

The first Shape Attitude Ambassadors were inaugurated at Jukwa, near Cape Coast, in the Central Region on 26th July 2017 on the occasion of Speech and Prize given Day of GOPA School Complex where the Chief Executive Officer of Shape Attitude Ghana, Mr Wonderful Baisie Ghartey, was the guest speaker.

The twelve ambassadors were drawn from pupils of GOPA School Complex. Mr Ghartey demonstrated how littering occurs and talked about the negative consequences, including diseases. He promised to work with the ambassadors towards changing the mind set and attitude of the people in and around Jukwa towards good sanitary practices. Mr Ghartey thanked the Managing Director of GOPA School Complex, Mr Amofa Appiah, for his initiative in forming Shape Attitude Club and the first ambassadors for Shape Attitude Ghana.

Speaking on the theme “Working together towards holistic and quality education, the time is now” Mr Ghartey talked about the power of collective action and urged the people of Jukwa to come together and work for quality education. Mr Ghartey said holistic education prepares students to meet the challenges of living beyond the formal education but all the knowledge cannot be acquired through the formal education in the classroom. Therefore, the traditional institutions, namely parents, extended families, communities and religious societies should play their role in impacting the needed knowledge for holistic education. He emphasised that parental engagement has positive impact on many indicators of students’ achievement and also associated with their development. He went on to commend the Parent-Teacher Association of GOPA School Complex which he said was a positive sign for working towards holistic and quality education. He then appealed to the Government representative, the District Chief Executive (DCE), who was present at the ceremony, to ensure that the basic infrastructure such as school structures, quality teachers and tools for teaching were provided since these are beyond the reach of the community.

Mr Ghartey, on behalf of Shape Attitude Ghana, donated trash bins, T-shirts, leaflets, posters and stickers to support campaign of the ambassadors. The DCE, Hon. Lawyer Emmanuel K. Nanah and the Chairman, Dr Micheal Kwarteng of CCOBOD, Accra also made cash donations to the ambassadors to support their work.

Present at the ceremony were the Managing Director of GOPA School Complex, Mr Amofah Appiah, President and executives of the Parent-Teacher Association and the Head Master of GOPA School Complex.

There were cultural displays and initiation of the School Cadet.
