Inculcating the concept of sanitation into the people of Alata, Apam

Students of the Department of Theatre Arts found in the School of Creative Arts, University of Education, Winneba staged a performance at Alata in Apam on inculcating the concept of sanitation into the people as an intervention in maintaining good sanitary conditions in the town.

The performance comprised poetry recital, drama and dance.  In all these, the central message was on maintaining good sanitary conditions by avoiding indiscriminate littering and dumping of refuse as well as open defecation.

Addressing the gathering, the Director of Shape Attitude Ghana, Mr Wonderful Baisie Ghartey, who was the Chairman of the event, reiterated the negative effects of poor sanitary conditions such as illnesses and destruction of the environment. Mr Ghartey said money spent on treatment and restoring the environment could be used in providing social infrastructure not to mention health and education. He added that it was individual and collective responsibility of the community in ensuring that the environment was clean and urged them to behave responsibly. Posters and leaflets of Shape Attitude Ghana were distributed at the function.

Among the people present at the event which took place on 21 February 2017 were the Head of Department of the of Theatre Arts, Mr Ernest K. Amponsah, a personel of the Ghana Education Service, pupils from schools in the town, the Chief Fisherman, the Management of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and several members of the academic and non-academic staff of the Department of Theatre Arts, University of Education, Winneba.
