Sensitisation on Segregation of Waste Started in Schools
Shape Attitude Ghana has started a campaign to educate primary schools in Winneba about waste segregation. The first school to receive this educational session was the Municipal Assembly C&D KG and Primary School.
The pupils were instructed on the importance of keeping a clean environment by properly and responsibly managing waste generation and disposal. The pupils already possessed a good understanding of the negative consequences linked to improper waste disposal and poor sanitary conditions, especially in relation to diseases like malaria. They were advised to put their knowledge into practice by refraining from indiscriminate littering and dumping of refuse.
Mr. Wonderful Baisie Ghartey, the founder and CEO of Shape Attitude Ghana, touched on the concept of waste recycling (reusing waste materials) and explained that waste segregation was the initial step at their level. Mr. Ghartey acknowledged the challenges associated with waste management in our setting, anticipating that providing various waste bins for sorting might not be easy. Nonetheless, he stressed the importance of raising awareness now to prepare for the future. Madam Esther Nyarkoa of Radio Peace in Winneba and the school's Headteacher, Mr. Philip Souzey, added their voices to the call for waste segregation. Shape Attitude Ghana generously supplied the school with posters and four labelled bins for paper, plastics, glass, and metals to facilitate segregation.
The Headteacher, Mr. Philip Souzey, and his staff expressed their gratitude to the Shape Attitude Ghana team, including Wonderful Baisie Ghartey, Mr. Samuel Kweku Osei, and Madam Esther Nyarkoa from Radio Peace Winneba.
