Shape Attitude Ghana Celebrates Third Anniversary with SACOST-UEW

Shape Attitude Ghana celebrated its third anniversary with the Centre for School and Community Science and Technology Studies (SACOST), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), on 5th June 2017. The theme for the occasion was “Promoting litter free environment.” The anniversary was celebrated alongside the World Environment Day with joint activities.

The event was started with a brass band precession by pupils from selected schools in Winneba on the streets around the Winneba lorry station and ended at the lorry station where the durbar took place.

Prof. Aseidu Addo, who represented the Vice-Chancellor as Chairman for the occasion, entreated the public to come together to make the environment a better place for all of us to live.  He commended Shape Attitude Ghana for collaborating with SACOST-UEW to sensitize the Winneba populace and called for more of such collaborations with the University and other organizations or institutions.    

Other speakers at the Durbar spoke about attitudinal change in addressing challenges on environmental issues. Prof. Jophus Anamoah-Mensah, Director of Institute for Educational Research and Innovation Studies (IERIS), UEW, who was also the first Vice Chancellor of UEW, called on everyone to create a better environment for the next generation. He said the answer to changing our attitude is education therefore, there was the need to make values and good attitudes part and parcel of our education to inspire the youth to have positive impact on the environment.

As part of the third anniversary celebration, Shape Attitude Ghana invited Zoomlion Foundation to introduce “Zoomkids” clubs in Winneba and in response, Zoomkids Clubs were launched at the durbar. “The Zoomkids” Programme is aimed at educating the young ones on how to keep their surroundings clean that they may grow with this attitude”, said Mrs. Sarah Kyei, who launched the programme.

Other speakers on the occasion were the Chief Fisherman of Winneba,  Mr Nelson Ahebor of Minerals Commission, Derick Romeo Adogla of Ghana Chamber of Mines , Prof. Kolawole Raheem, Head of SACOST, Mr Wonderful Baisie Ghartey, Director of Shape Attitude Ghana, Mrs Sarah Kyei, National Coordinator, Zoomlion Foundation, Mr Andrew K. Asamoah, Executive Chairman, A&C Development Company and President of Ghana Association of Former Interventional Civil Servants (GAFICS), and Mrs Adwoa Amofa, representing the Municipal Chief Executive.

Seventy five trash bins were donated for distribution to schools by Shape Attitude Ghana (20), A&C Development Co. Ltd (20), The Ghana Association of Former International Civil Servants (GAFICS) (20) and Zoomlion Foundation (15).

Shape Attitude Ghana gave cash and first aid box as an award to Mr Francis Eduah, for being an environment friendly taxi driver in Winneba.
