University of Education, Winneba’s collaboration extends to orientation of “freshers”.

In the spirit of collaboration with Shape Attitude Ghana, the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) included Shape Attitude in its 2016/2017 academic year Intensive Pre-academic Orientation Programme (IPOP) for fresh undergraduate, post graduate and international students.

Shape Attitude Ghana carried its sensitisation and awareness messages to the students and took them through the role they should play in ensuring good sanitary conditions on their campuses and surroundings. By virtue of their position as students of the highest tertiary institution in Winneba and being trained primarily as teachers, they were employed to influence the life style in Winneba and the neighbouring villages in a positive way by showing good examples. Specific reference was made to indiscriminate littering and dumping of refuse where the students were tasked to exhibit positive attitude and practices to avoid them. They were advised to stop the practice of posting bills or posters on the floor of drive ways and the streets of the University campus.

The students were asked not to always wait for the University authorities to handle challenges with sanitation but take initiatives and engage the authorities in dealing with issues on sanitation.

Mr Wonderful Baisie Ghartey, founder of Shape Attitude Ghana, ended his talk with a demonstration on how to drink water in a responsible way to avoid littering of plastic sachet and bottles.

The week long orientation, 22 August – 2 September 2016, which was organised by the Dean of Student Affairs of the University, Professor Cosmas W.K. Mereku, was intended to assist freshers to get settled in their new environment on all aspects of the University life. Speakers were drawn from the various Faculties and Departments of the University.
