Shape Attitude Ghana and Apam SHS Undertake Clean Up Exercise

Shape Attitude Ghana, in collaboration with Apam Senior High School (Apam SHS), successfully conducted a clean-up exercise at five public institutions in Apam town.

The exercise, which took place on Saturday, 28th March 2026, targeted key government and service facilities within the Gomoa West District. These included the Gomoa West Education Office, District Assembly, District Hospital, District Police Station and Electoral Commission office.

Mr. Wonderful Basie Ghartey, Director of Shape Attitude Ghana, emphasised that sanitation and environmental protection must go hand in hand. He issued a strong call to the public to stop the destructive practice of indiscriminate tree cutting.

Mr. Ghartey stated firmly that if trees must be cut down for any legitimate reason, such as road construction or development projects, it must be accompanied by mandatory replanting. He stated that deforestation contributes significantly to climate change, soil erosion, flooding and loss of biodiversity.

Mr. Ghartey urged community members, traditional authorities and government agencies to adhere to responsible tree management practices, describing this as a moral and social obligation to future generations. "Environmental cleanliness is not only about sweeping and collecting waste; it is also about preserving what gives us life, our trees, our air and our land," he remarked.

Mr. Ghartey concluded with a message of collective responsibility, emphasising that we should not rely solely on the government to take action. “Everyone—whether a student, teacher, officer, parent, or leader—has a role to play in keeping our surroundings clean and protecting our trees. And if you must cut trees, remember to replant.”

The Assistant Headmaster of Apam SHS, Mr. Moses Okine, speaking on behalf of the school, expressed gratitude for the partnership, noting that the initiative not only beautified the town but also reinforced the school's commitment to community engagement and values-based education.

Students of Apam SHS, who formed the volunteer workforce, demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and discipline. Armed with brooms, gloves, trash bags and hand tools, they swept pavements, cleared clogged gutters, collected plastic waste and properly disposed of the refuse that had accumulated over time at the targeted locations. Shape Attitude Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to expanding such initiatives throughout the Central Region and beyond.
